The beautiful island of Bali is a popular holiday spot known for its natural beauty and lovely beaches. But that’s not the only thing Bali has in abundance. It also has (too) many stray dogs. Bali has a huge stray dog population, and these dogs are commonly found wandering the streets of the towns and villages looking for food. Their numbers are so large that a lot of them go to sleep starving at the end of the day. Rico Soegiarto, a resident of Denpasar, the capital of Bali, is a 26-year-old rescuer who helps rescue dogs, rehabilitate them, and helps to re-home them. One day when out for a walk, Rico came across a severely malnourished Husky with eyes shining bright like the stars. Even though she was clearly starved and had become skin and bones, this dog’s eyes showed she had a strong will to live. Rico approached the Husky and noticed she had bald patches all over her body. Even in such a terrible condition, the Husky reciprocated Rico’s affections. Rico wanted to honor her will to live, so he named her ‘Hope’, and decided to take her back home with him and give her a new life. Back home, Rico gave Hope a nice bath and lots of yummy food. He supplemented her diet with plenty of cuddles, of which Hope couldn’t get enough of! According to Rico, Hope loves being pet and eating plenty of cookies. Hope also got dog siblings in the form of the four dogs Rico had already rescued previously. She instantly made friends with all of them. After just 10 months of love and nourishment, Hope began to look like a brand new dog. She had completely transformed! And all through her transformation, she never lost the shine in her bright, blue eyes! We love stories involving people like Rico, because it fills our hearts with hope that there are wonderful dog-parents like him in the world! Rico shows us that if people start helping out, the suffering of stray dogs can definitely end. Click the video below to watch Hope enjoying an ice cream with her doggy sibling.
