Dog Left in Backyard to Die Rescued Just In Time

Smokey’s story is about a dog that was left in a backyard to slowly die from starvation and one woman who showed true heroism by dropping everything to save him.

Darlene was getting a manicure from her usual nail technician – a woman she liked and had been visiting for years. The woman told her about her son’s unwanted puppy, a dog he refused to provide food, water and shelter. Darlene assumed the technician was feeding the dog when in fact Smokey was slowly being starved to death. The manicurist finally confessed that she wanted to “put the dog down” but didn’t want to pay the $200 fee to do so. Darlene, an animal lover not an animal rescuer, requested a photo of the Smokey.

Police Dog Shot And Killed In Line Of Duty, Community Mourns The Canine Hero

Police K9 officers are trained to be brave and to put their lives on the line in the name of duty. Sadly, K9 officer, Axe, of the St. Clair Shores Police Department in Michigan, sacrificed his own life at the hands of a gunman.

The Lakeland Manor Banquet Hall was the scene of a gunman, who was located outside the hall. Inside, 70 people came together to attend a baby shower. Someone placed a call to alert the authorities.

As they arrived on the scene, police saw who they believed to be the suspect. K9 officer Axe was released on the man. The suspect fired at the dog, and officers returned fire, hitting the perpetrator. Sadly, the dog was pronounced dead by a veterinarian. The suspect later died at a local hospital from gunshot wounds.

The loyal canine cop gave his all, starting with the department at four years of age. A nearby resident heard the sounds, thinking it might be fireworks. At this point, the case is being investigated further. The deceased man was identified as  29-year-old Theoddeus Gray of Detroit.

299 Dogs Found Homes At Adoption Event, Except 1 Pit Bull No One Wanted

Life for a six-year-old Pit Bull named ‘King Zeus’ has not been easy. His past was unclear but it was evident that he suffered. His teeth were worn down and he was covered in scars.

Still, he was gentle and loving. Even hopeful that his life would take the dramatic turn he deserved and he would find a family.

While Zeus is a total love with people, he’s not great with other dogs. This was evident with a family who tried to give him a home and returned him the next day. King Zeus was returned twice to the shelter actually. He was losing hope. And so were the volunteers who adored him.

Zeus’ demeanor changed after the second time he was brought back to the shelter. He used to engage with volunteers. He used to bark happily when people passed by his kennel. But after he held out hope and was returned, he lost a part of himself. He stopped being himself. He totally stopped barking altogether. It was heartbreaking.

King Zeus was given one more chance. A nearby adoption event featured 300 animals in need of homes. His caretakers were hopeful. He’s such a good boy, surely someone would see that and he would get his happily ever after. But no, he was passed up time and time again. It didn’t help that he laid in the crate, totally removed, detached, hopeless. But who could blame him?! When all hope is lost it’s hard to hide it.

Mama Dog Travels 2 Miles With a Broken Leg To Get Help For Her Babies

Mothers can cross any limits for their children, be it human mothers or animal mothers. And this mama Ibizan Hound named Vera proved it. She endured the unendurable for her babies and managed to touch the hearts of millions of people.

With her skeletal- skinny body and a broken leg, Vera travelled 2 miles worth of distance to get human help for her babies. She was in no way in the state of doing that, but her love for her babies was so strong that she couldn’t be stopped.

Vera limped all the way toward and back and managed to catch the attention of Lianne Powell, who followed her all along with a local vet. She had kept her pups at the back of the safety of an abandoned car. As the two humans went on to look, they were surprised to find ten beautiful puppies lying in a basket!

The vet anticipated that Vera and her pups were dumped by hunters because they were no longer of any use for them. Her leg’s break was a clean one, and it was when the hunting season had just ended.

The family was brought to the animal clinic, and all of them were safe. Vera’s leg was appropriately treated, bandaged and also re-aligned.

The caring clinic staff brought Vera’s health and strength back soon. After they all are ready, the entire family will be put up for adoption in loving homes.

15-Year-Old Dog Cries When Her Family Leaves Her Behind To Bring Home A Younger Dog

Abandoning a pet is devastating to the innocent creature who loves you with all their heart. According to pet statistics released by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 6.5 million pets are brought into shelter homes each year in the USA. Out of these, only 3.2 million shelter animals get adopted, and 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized – every single year. The statistics are devastating.

But that doesn’t seem to stop people from abandoning their pets. Like the family that owned Cookie, a 15-year-old Cocker Spaniel and her best friend, a 1-year-old Lab. The two dogs were rescued from the streets of San Bernardino after being left to fend for themselves by their family.

The shelter staff who rescued the dogs managed to track down the dogs’ family. However, when the family arrived, everyone was in for a surprise. The family chose to only take back the young Lab and left poor Cookie behind. Watching in shock as her family took her best friend home and leave her behind, Cookie began to cry and whimper for them to come back. It was devastating!

The staff was worried about Cookie and her mental and physical health after being abandoned like that, but then a silver lining appeared. Cookie’s story began to spread and many animal lovers reached out to help. Among them was a rescue group who found a permanent foster home for Cookie where she now lives in peace and happiness!

No pet deserves to be left behind. No matter what! Remember, a pet is forever!

Mama Dog Tied Up And Left To Die, Kept Her Puppies Alive For 10 Days Waiting For Help

In an act of utmost cruelty, a dog owner tied their pregnant dog to a tree in a forest and left her to die. Miraculously, not only did the dog survive, but she gave birth to her puppies and kept them alive for 10 days while being tied up.

When Lara, a Pit Bull mix, got pregnant, her owner decided they didn’t want to take care of her or her puppies. So they did the most inhumane thing. Instead of finding a new home for her or surrendering her to a shelter, the owner tied her to a tree in a forest near Nafplion, Greece.

By this time, Lara was heavily pregnant, and she was left out in the cold forest, in the middle of nowhere, all alone and tied to a tree. Lara ended up giving birth to four puppies while still being tied up.

The World’s Oldest Dog, Maggie, Has Closed Her Eyes And Taken Her Last Nap

Maggie was an absolutely gorgeous Australian sheepdog that has recently passed away at an age that many people believe are breaking world records. Her heartbroken owner confirmed the death to local media outlets.

Dairy farmer, Brian McLaren, was devastated by the passing of his 30-year-old Kelpie. She had been by his side for many years. He says that she was fairly healthy overall up to the time that she passed.

“She was 30 years old, she was still going along nicely last week, she was walking from the dairy to the office and growling at the cats and all that sort of thing,” McLaren, who lives in Victoria, Australia, told The Weekly Times.

“She just went downhill in two days, and I said yesterday morning when I went home for lunch … ‘She hasn’t got long now.’”

McLaren said that Maggie had been curled up in her bed the evening before he went to bed, and she was in the exact same position come morning. His heart dropped to the floor, but he did find a bright side.

Pit Bull Rescued From Dogfighting Finds Love And Comfort In A Giant Bunny

Mindy Hayes had to be careful bringing a rabbit into her Erie, Pennsylvania, home with her dogs, so she introduced them slowly. But it quickly became apparent that it wouldn’t be a problem for her two-year-old rescue pit bull named Grace.

Mindy Hayes

It was an instant bond and connection for Grace and Sophie the rabbit. Anywhere one would go, the other wouldn’t be far behind. They were inseparable. The dog even started grooming the bunny and snuggling on the couch with her every day!

Mindy Hayes

Although Sophie is pretty big, she’s only 11 months old and still has some growing left to do. Adult Flemish giant rabbits can weigh as much as 15 to 20 pounds! When she stretches out and lies beside Grace, they don’t look all that different in size.

Mindy Hayes

This unique friendship is pretty natural in their household at this point, but people on the outside are always shocked to find out the two are such good friends. Especially since Grace is a pit bull who came from a background of dogfighting.

Mindy Hayes

“Grace had a very rough start to life,” Mindy told The Dodo. “Before she was rescued she had been used for fighting and then was tied up to a tree, left to fend for herself. Knowing where she came from and to see her be so loving to everyone, especially to a rabbit, is really spreading awareness to who these dogs really are. They are not bad dogs. She wants to be friends with everyone she meets.”

Mindy Hayes

Mindy and her husband feel very fortunate having this special relationship in their lives. It’s something that brings smiles to their faces every day and reminds them that love is not bound by species.
